After arriving in Miami from Peru in the early 1970’s, Mario came to the United States like many before him seeking the famous American Dream. Mario ultimately accomplished his dream and along the way helped many others in Peru and the United States accomplish their dreams too. As one of the oldest Peruvian restaurants in Florida, multiple generations of the Abanto family have helped build El Chalan to be the community institution that it is today. Both of the restaurant’s locations – on Bird Road and Miami Beach – are staples among the Peruvian community, and though the decor has been upgraded, the food remains just as good as when Mario first opened.
